Eating for Strength and Recovery
Proper nutrition plays an important role in healing and recovery post surgery. What you eat can help you recover from surgery, heal wounds and strengthen bones and muscles to get you back on your feet and back to where you were. Eating a varied diet of healthy foods can also help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight and give you the energy you need to recover to the fullest.

If you have undergone major surgery or are recovering from an illness and require rehabilitative support, our skilled nursing staff will provide an assessment to identify what foods are necessary for your healing and recovery.

Your nutritional needs may depend on a variety of factors including any present medical complications and medications you are taking which will help us in developing your personalized nutritional plan. A Benchmark nutritionist will be in charge of this part of your rehabilitation and will support you through the entire process.

The Right Nutrition for Healing
Benchmark’s skilled nursing care provides proper nutrition aligned with your recovery plan. This includes meals that are prepared as follows:

• Low in salt, fat and sugar
• Plenty of vegetables and fresh fruit
• Lean meat
• Meals served with plenty of water

Your nursing team will guide you on what foods are best for you and accommodate any special diets as indicated by your medical plan. Depending on how you are doing, you can enjoy meals in our dining area with your peers or if you prefer, you can dine in the privacy of your own room. Our goal is to make sure you are comfortable and receiving maximum nursing support so you can go home and resume your normal activities.
