25 Years of Caring, Inspiring
Cardinal Drive associate leaves her mark on residents, colleagues
Maria Cruz genuinely loves her job, her co-workers, and especially the many residents of The Atrium at Cardinal Drive who have been like family to her over the past 25 years. To say Maria has been there from the beginning is an understatement.
She fondly recalls the first resident moving into Apartment #22 in the “A-wing.” Elsewhere, construction continued. She worked 12-hour shifts until additional staff was hired.
In addition to CNA responsibilities, Maria helped with housekeeping and in the kitchen. You did what needed to be done, like any family.
Today, it’s caring for residents as if they were her own and providing the special touches that make the residents and their families feel good that Marie enjoys.
Maria credits her longevity to the wonderful directors at The Atrium, who always allowed her to be herself and have provided flexibility so she can care for her aging parents at home. But, she says, it is in the eyes of the residents where the rewards of her hard work shine brightest.
“Resident care has changed, families are in need of more help with their loved ones, and I believe I make a difference,” says Maria.
“Maria embodies Benchmark values in everything she does, whether it’s her interactions with residents and their families or with her colleagues,” said Cheryl Moran, executive director of The Atrium at Cardinal Drive. “Maria is truly an inspiration to the entire Cardinal Drive family.”
