Maintaining Men’s Health for Productive Living
At Benchmark Senior Living, we know how important it is to maintain good health in order to keep aging well. The CDC estimates that men are much less likely than women to seek preventive care from their healthcare providers. We’re here to help close that gap by encouraging overall awareness for men’s health.
For Men’s Health Month in June, Benchmark Senior Living is proud to cultivate awareness of the most pressing issues affecting men’s health. The most important thing we can do is to encourage men to see their doctors regularly and to get checked out.
Maintaining good health often means changing simple things like incorporating exercise and healthy eating into daily routines, quitting smoking (if applicable), and, perhaps, most importantly, ensuring access to quality healthcare.
Benchmark’s team of associates includes a concierge service that helps our residents schedule doctors’ appointments, along with arranging transportation to ensure they make it to these local appointments on time. Many of our communities have on-site medical suites where outside medical personnel can visit to provide supportive healthcare services when necessary or indicated, and some services can be provided in the privacy of resident apartments. Maintaining a good relationship with your medical providers may ensure that any health issues that crop up are taken care of sooner rather than later.
Our dining associates and award-winning chefs also play a role in planning healthy meal options, and our fitness rooms and wellness centers provide easy access to a variety of exercise options and services. From outdoor gardening in our courtyards, to yoga ball drum circles, to reading clubs on the patios, our Benchmark communities incorporate activities for the overall mental and physical health well-being of our residents.
What else can be done to prevent common health issues?
- Check and control high cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
- Maintain a regimented medication schedule.
- Switch to a healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables, and ample fiber.
- Recommend prostate cancer screenings.
- Encourage exercise for 30 minutes a day to reduce risk for diabetes and other issues.
In conjunction with Father’s Day, let us celebrate wellness to help the men in our lives remain healthy, engaged, and aging well.
