Benchmark Celebrates Pride Month: Because Everyone Belongs Here
At Benchmark Senior Living, we are honored to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June.
Benchmark communities make it our mission to create an open, caring environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging, where we can celebrate our differences and where we can be Better Together.
Happy Pride!
Every June, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and others (LGBTQ+) community, along with their family, friends and other supporters, celebrate Pride Month.
Pride takes place this month because on June 29, 1969, in Manhattan, New York, the police raided a bar frequented by the LGBTQ+ community called the Stonewall Inn, and its patrons fought back. The resulting “Stonewall Riots” are widely thought of as the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement, as the community fought back against widespread persecution in the United States.
This year is the 53rd anniversary of Stonewall.
In each of our senior living and memory care communities, residents and their families come together from a wide, diverse range of cultures and life experiences. Empowering our residents to be themselves at Benchmark is such an important part of what we do. It’s one of the ways we care deeply for one another to support whole and healthy aging. We understand from both experience and observation that embracing our diversity and learning from each other is a crucial step toward becoming stronger as a community.
Creating an open, welcoming place for all to call home is just who we are.
The Pride movement respects diversity within its own community and beyond. We understand that embracing our differences is an essential part of caring for others. That’s why these values of equity and inclusiveness serve as hallmarks of our communities, not only among our residents but across each level of our organization.
During the month of June, and all year long, let us be the Benchmark for belonging.
